Along with other “Market-towns” York has a street market. It isn’t junk either. There is everything from clothing to all kinds of foods. There is an emphasis on fresh, locally grown produce and meats, much of it organic.
I thought you might like seeing what this looks like. It is very interesting. You can live in the center of the Medieval city (and many do) without a car. Most of what you might need is within easy walking distance. Not a bad way to live, I’m thinking.

Markets have all sorts of things on sale.
Butchers offer local meat for sale at the market. There is a great emphasis on local food particualrly organic food. I hope that this trend will happen in the States.
