The writer of the “Purple Cow” verse, Gelett Burgess, came bitterly to regret his humorous offspring as every new acquaintance felt compelled to quote it to him for ever-after. At least he had a sense of humor in his misery as he penned the second verse Ah yes I wrote the purple cow.
