The raven appears in the Bible as the understudy to the dove in the story of Noah and the flood. Everyone knows the story of how the whole world was covered with water and as they waited for the flood waters to subside Noah sent out a dove three times and the she broght a olive branch in her beak. A lovely story but a close reading reveals that Noah also sends a raven to scout out earth.

The Raven however, never returned,  clearly he saw his chance and he took it.
