The fellow who found the opportunity to steal that turned into a trap displays the condition that besets all humanity: sin.  This condition that puts our ego at the center of the universe and that sets us against all others makes civilization difficult and civil society almost impossible.

The Gospel speaks to this inner alienation and seeks to supply the missing piece that heals and makes a fully human being. All too often the Church has failed to be a matrix of change and healing and in fact has been part of the the problem rather than a part of the answer. Yet the good news of God in Christ still speaks to the empty place in the being telling us that God loves and seeks to save that which is lost.
