Casper David Friedrich — 19th Century artist who painted Christian art without overtly Christian content but with great emotion. Here we see a structure built within the ruins of a great cathedral. This becomes in some sense a visual metaphor for the post-modern Church working again on the margins of the culture. These are times for Christians to put down deep roots and plumb deeply the depths of the Christian tradition and experience.
